What Is a Board & Train?

Your dog’s specific behaviors—and your needs as a dog owner—are addressed in our comprehensive Board & Train Programs. During your dog’s extended stay, they will learn the 5 obedience commands sit, down, place, come, and heel. They will also learn how to avoid bothersome habits and receive minor behavior modification training tailored to their specific needs. After your dog graduates from the Training Program, they will be able to perform the full range of dog obedience commands that we teach. They will also leave their old, disruptive habits behind, and be ready to come home with new, positive behaviors that make your daily routines, park visits, and travel easier and more enjoyable. Additionally, after your dog graduates from our board and train Program, you will receive access to our boarding service, exclusive only to Signature K9 Graduates

What does Behavior Modification entail?

Signature K9 Training Academy offers K9 Behavior Modification programs for owners with dogs that exhibit difficult behaviors. We work with dogs of all ages and breeds with a variety of problems including but not limited to aggression, fighting, biting, resource guarding, bullying, shyness, fears, anxiety, and neurotic behaviors. With the knowledge obtained through years of working with problem dogs we are confident that we can find the solution you are looking for. We utilize proven, scientific techniques and applied behavior analysis along with sound operant conditioning principles to ensure that behavior problems are resolved in a safe and efficient way.

An initial consultation and behavioral evaluation are needed to accurately diagnose your dog’s issues and determine the source of the issue(s). Our K9 behavior modification programs are customized to each individual dog and their owner, as no two dogs are alike, and each problem may stem from a different source. Understanding the behavior and cause is the first step to successful rehabilitation. A plan of action is then set in place to ensure the success of our program and the rehabilitation of the dog. GROUP PLAY AND SOCIALIZATION*

We believe a dog needs to be exposed to other dogs and able to co-exist and may even elect a proper play style. Our Board and train dogs get to run and play in groups, learning how to act as a pack and take direction from their handlers. Dogs in our board and train program are exposed to basic behaviors even while engaged in play with other dogs such as recall, sit and downs.

*limited to dogs without dog aggression or bite history on other dogs*

OWNER TRAINING

Every Signature K9 graduate and their family members receive owner training and instruction upon graduation during our Go-home lesson. Our Go-home lesson discloses our transitional keys to success when welcoming your K9 companion back home. Each client or family will learn about the training their dog has received, how/when to use the commands, and proper reinforcement of the training. Owner instruction includes a demonstration of the owner’s dog performing the commands

Our K9 students learn how to behave properly, meeting and greeting people or other dogs in public settings. Distraction proofing and teaching a dog how to behave outside of their home environment is necessary if you want the freedom and luxury to bring your dog with you to one of the many dog-friendly places Austin, TX has to offer.

 BEHAVIORAL CASE STUDY

Owners will receive a comprehensive study regarding their dogs behavior and progression throughout the rehabilitation programs. Our case study relates to events in the dogs past, as well as to significant events which are currently occurring in his or her everyday life to help owners understand why their dogs behaviors started, how we stopped them, and how to prevent them from happening again.

PRIVATE LESSONS

Private Lessons $200.00

If you’re nervous about how your dog will react around other dogs, or if you’re interested in specialized attention for your dog, then our private dog training lessons offer you and your dog a solution. Our dedicated training professionals will lead you through an initial assessment and develop a customized training program for your beloved pet.

The program will include the training that your dog needs regarding specific commands, obedience, socialization, training to prevent bad habits, and behavior modification. Additionally, families may find this training option a great choice for problematic behaviors that are specific to the home setting.

*A travel fee of $15/lesson will be assessed to any lessons held outside of a 30 minute radius from our facility*

Our K9 workshop consists of a 2-hour block of instruction focusing on more than just your average obedience drills and exercises. Join our subject matter expert and K9 graduates in a full emersion of K9 learning theory, K9 psychology, troubleshooting solutions, and more!
